Burlingame, California; A Town For All Seasons

Named after diplomat Anson Burlingame, the town of Burlingame is often referred to as “The city of trees.” Indeed, the inviting and leafy neighborhoods that encompass this charming town, share trees of every description from varieties of palms to delicate Japanese maples as well as many magnificent eucalyptus trees that grandly line both sides of El Camino Real as well as other Burlingame locales.

Burlingame is unique, insofar as it has always given the warm illusion of a small town neighborly ambience. In actuality, it spans close to 5 miles between the towns of San Mateo (south) and Millbrae (north). It borders east to the San Francisco Bay and west to the town of Hillsborough. This town offers two Main Streets; Broadway and Burlingame Avenue. Each street has its own individual flavor, despite so many changes throughout the years. Burlingame Avenue, better known in town as “The Avenue” will always remain upscale. Broadway will always be known as charming and quaint, peppered with several unique and one of a kind shops.

Burlingame boasts three large grocery stores; a super-sized Safeway, plus the more tony Mollie Stone’s and Lunardi’s.  There are several smaller specialty and gourmet grocery stores as well. The town’s eateries cater to every taste, from Burmese to Italian, to almost everything in between.

Highlights: Burlingame is within a 10 minute drive to San Francisco Airport. It is a very safe town with many interesting neighborhoods. Burlingame High School is rated one of the top 250 high schools in the country. It is slightly diverse with a primarily white student body.

Some Burlingame neighborhoods:

To the left of the train station is the lovely, tree filled Washington Park which features art shows, outdoor concerts and more.
